The Walking Dead’s Glen Mazzara Will Write THE SHINING Prequel

Warner Bros. in talks with Walking Dead writer and producer Glen Mazzara to write their prequel to Stephen King's The Shining. The movie was announced last year, and the story will focus on what happened before Jack, Wendy, and Danny arrived at the haunted hotel where Jack ends up descending into violent madness.

The movie would be based on a prologue for the book called "Before the Play," which ended up being cut from the original book. There is a very long and dark history to the Overlook Hotel, which starts with it being built on an Indian burial ground and extends to the caretaker Delbert Grady chopping up his family with an axe prior to Jack showing up.

King recently said that he didn't like the idea of a prequel, but the WB is moving forward with it regardless of what he thinks. But he also said that the prologue he wrote included some "really scary stuff... that wouldn’t make a bad movie."

Hopefully Mazzara will be able to write a terrifyingly fantastic script! This film has a lot of potential, and I'm excited for it! Do you think Mazzara is a solid choice to take on this horror franchise?
