GEARS OF WAR Movie Moves Forward with New Producer

Movie Gears of War by Joey Paur

Scott Stuber has signed on to produce the big screen adaptation of the hit video game franchise Gears of War. The movie is one step closer to actually becoming a reality. As of right now, there's no writer, director or any other talent attached to the project. However, Stuber will start developing the story with the video game's developer Epic Games. The film isn't set up at any studio yet either, but the producer has a first look deal with Universal Pictures.

The project was previously set up at New Line Cinema with a script written by Stuart Beattie, and Len Wiseman (Total Recall) was set to direct it. Due to creative differences with Epic Games, the movie ended up not going into production.

Epic Games wants to keep an eye on the movie as it goes forward, making sure that the story stays in line with the mythology that has already been established in the franchise. The story is set on a planet called Sera and follows a former P.O.W. who fights against the Locust Horde, which is a race of creatures who emerged from underneath the planet’s surface and are intent on eliminating humankind.

It hasn't been easy for successful video games like this to get their big screen adaptation. This franchise has already had its fair share of issues, and then there are games like Halo and Bioshock that have both been through development hell. Hopefully Gears of War makes it into production this time.

Struber has also produced films such as Safe House, Battleship, Your Highness, Ted, The Wolfman, 47 Ronin, The Internship, and more.
