Ron Perlman Says Guillermo del Toro Owes HELLBOY 3 to the World
I remember when Ron Perlman was talking about how he wasn't interested in reprising his role as Hellboy due to the intense makeup process he had to go through. It looks like he's changing his tune though. Talk of of third Hellboy movie really ramped up after Perlman became Hellboy again for charity. He now feels that director Guillermo del Toro owes Hellboy 3 to the world. In a recent interview with IGN, Perlman explained:
[Del Toro and I] both walked away from Hellboy 2 agreeing that there would never be another one. But, with the passage of time, it became clear to me that he really always designed it as a trilogy. [Guillermo] has a very well-articulated idea of what the resolve would look like and it's amazingly theatrical and is epic in scope and would make for amazing cinema, with or without the first two movies ... I said [to Guillermo], 'You owe it to the world to finish this trilogy. I've been giving him Jewish guilt.
Del Toro knows what he wants to do for a third film, but he's said in the past that he can't do it due to lack of funding. He says he needs $140 million to make it, but there are no investors willing to take the chance. Maybe the movie will happen one day if he is willing to bring the budget down. Then there's the creator of Hellboy who simply has said that it's not going to happen.
I'd love to see a Hellboy 3 movie get made, but as much as the fans and Perlman want it to happen, I'm not going to get my hopes up.
