PACIFIC RIM - Cool New TV Spot and Del Toro Discusses Sequel

Here's another cool TV spot for Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim. If you've been wanting to see some more footage from this insane looking action-packed sci-fi epic, then you'll want to watch this. The director also recently spoke to EW about developing the sequel saying,

[With the old Godzilla movies] it was Godzilla versus so-and-so, and that was all you needed to know It was like a wrestling match. They [Kaiju] are a race of blind consumers grabbing planets, consuming them, and moving to the next. The idea [with the sequel] is to explore a little bit of that. I won’t spoil it, but I don’t think we’ll repeat a single beat from the first movie.

That's refreshing to hear. I hate when sequels end up being basically the same movie as the first one. Del Toro is currently co-writing the sequel with Travis Beachman, but don't expect it to happen anytime soon.

It will take us a while to develop. I don’t think the screenplay will come out so quick. It took us a year and a half to do this script, and it’ll take us at least two years to develop the other script.

Del Toro is open to come back and direct the sequel, but it's not set in stone yet. Who knows what he'll be doing by the time the film is ready to shoot. It would be great though if he did come back to direct it!

Pacific Rim comes out on July 12th, and it's going to be glorious. Enjoy the new spot!

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes — a washed up former pilot and an untested trainee — who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
