Bryan Singer on X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Opportunities

Bryan Singer is looking to take the X-Men franchise to a whole new level with X-Men: Days of Future Past. He's bringing together almost every main actor that has starred in an X-Men movie and is adding some new characters like Quicksilver into the mix. He's also throwing in a whole time travel element into the mix. This is an ambitious X-Men project, and I truly hope that Singer can actually pull it off.

In a recent interview with SFX, the director says his goal is for Days of Future Past to be its own film, not just a sequel to First Class or X-Men 3. He even reveals that he pitched his idea to James Cameron to make sure it would work.

It’s not just another X-Men film; it’s not just about the combined cast as there will be certain technologies and other stuff that we haven’t seen before in the X-Men film. There are also issues of time and we’re messing about with that. I think we’ve got it figured out. I pitched it to James Cameron when I was in New Zealand last year and he said, ‘Yes, that makes sense.’

We wanted an opportunity to bring some of the favourite older and younger characters together. We also wanted to play with the notion of different times and stuff like the way that time affects destinies. It enables the film to not just be a sequel to First Class or X-Men 3 but to actually be its own thing.

I'm curious to see if this film will actually be used to open up Fox's own mutant Marvel cinematic universe. As of right now, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine is the only connection they all have. It will be interesting to see if the upcoming Fantastic Four film connects with this movie universe. It very well could, especially with the addition of Quicksilver, but we'll just have to wait and see.

As excited as I am to see how this and The Wolverine turn out, I just want to see Fox finally make that long awaited Deadpool movie!
