STAR TREK 3 Could Involve Klingons and Benedict Cumberbatch

Movie Damon Lindelof by Joey Paur

While promoting Star Trek Into Darkness in London, writer Damon Lindelof was cornered by HeyUGuys and asked about what we can expect to see in a third Star Trek movie. Surprisingly, he had some interesting answers for them! He revealed that while they were making the first movie, they already had plans for the second film. He added that it's a "reasonable conclusion" that they already have ideas for Star Trek 3. After some prodding, he went into some specifics saying,

You can never see enough Klingons, and I think in this film we’ve given the audience a little taste, but there’s also a promise that there’s a larger conflict on the horizon, and that would be fun to see.

From what it sounds like, Into Darkness is setting up a third film in which the Klingons will be the main villains in the story. We all knew it would eventually happen, and it sounds like they're working up to it. Of course, there's no confirmation of this, but it's safe to assume that's what is happening. They then ask if Benedict Cumberbatch would be back to reprise his role in the third movie, and this was his response...

To answer that question would be to determine whether or not he actually survives this movie, but if he survives this movie, I think that we would be incredibly stupid to not use him again.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see if he survives or not! If he does, then it sounds like he'll be back. The big question is, will J.J. Abrams come back to direct it? I'd have to say it's a long shot, especially since Paramount is going to want to release the third film by the 50th anniversary of Star Trek in 2016. I don't see how Abrams can do it because he'll be buried in Star Wars production.
