DreamWorks Animation's TROLLS Lands a Director

DreamWorks Animation has announced that their big screen adaptation of Trolls will be directed by Mike Mitchell. Who's that guy you ask? Well, he's currently directing the live action sequences in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie 2 and has also directed Shrek Forever After, Sky High, and Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked. It's not the greatest resume of films, but this is a movie about those Troll dolls, so I guess it doesn't really matter. I don't imagine it will be any better than any of the previous films he's worked on.

The film is currently being scripted by Emmy Award-winning writer Erica Rivinoja, who has worked on comedies such as South Park and Up All Night. The movie will be a grand scale musical comedy that centers on how the Trolls came into their vibrant and colorful hair. Chief Creative Officer Bill Damaschke had this to say in a statement:

Mike and Erica are the perfect team to reimagine this film. Mike's pedigree in shaping stories with already beloved characters is second to none, and Erica's amazing sense of comedy will introduce the Trolls to a new generation of fans while keeping the spirit and appeal audiences have loved for years.

The movie is set to be released on November 4th, 2016, so we've got a long way to go. I've never been a fan of those Troll toys, so I don't care how the movie turns out. I already know I'm probably not going to end up seeing it unless my kids force me.
