Tom Hardy to Play Elton John in ROCKETMAN?
Tom Hardy, the man who played Bane, Bronson and Mad Max is now apparently up for the role of Sir Elton John in the biopic being developed called Rocketman. I've got to say that he is a really odd choice. John expressed at one point that he'd like to see Justin Timberlake play him, but if the part is out to Hardy, that obviously didn't pan out. As much as I like Hardy, it is really hard to imagine him in a role like this. I think Timberlake might have been the better choice -- he did a great impression of Elton John when he hosted SNL this past season.
The movie has been described as, "a biographical musical fantasy that will weave together John’s life and his music... it follows his life story from a child piano prodigy (who by age 11 won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music) to a young man who rebelled against his strict upbringing, wore outrageous costumes and became a global icon who teamed with songwriter Bernie Taupin to sell more records that just about any musical artist of his era."
According to Hitfix, there's no official offer. Hardy hasn't even expressed interest yet, but the project is out to him right now to look over. If he ends up being cast in the film, it's going to be weird to see him go through the transformation he's going to have to make. It will be different from anything else he's ever done. But then again, I couldn't imagine Michael Douglas playingLiberace either, but he pulled it off.
What do you think about the possibility of Hardy playing Elton John?
