Chris Columbus in Talks to Direct PIXELS

Movie Chris Columbus by Joey Paur

Sony Pictures has been slowly moving forward on the big screen adaptation of the short film "Pixels." The last we heard, Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon was brought on as an executive producer alongside Adam Sandler and his Happy Madison Productions. At the time of that announcement, the director of the short film Patrick Jean was attached to direct the movie, but that doesn't look like it worked out because now Harry Potter director/producer Chris Columbus is in talks to helm the project. Jean is still on board as an executive producer, though.

The actual "Pixels" short was a huge hit online; it's just incredibly entertaining. It was released a couple of years ago, and I've been looking forward to seeing it as a feature film. According to THR, the studio is looking to turn the film into a "Ghostbusters-style action comedy in which characters come out of a video game to wreak havoc in the real world." There's a lot of potential, and I think Columbus is a solid choice to bring it to life. The last film he directed was Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, which, as you know, wasn't his best work. I still think he's a solid filmmaker, though.

What do you think about Columbus taking on "Pixels"? Check out the short below.
