VERONICA MARS Movie - Tina Majorino and Krysten Ritter are Back!

Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas has revealed that pre-production on the movie has come to an end, and they will actually start shooting the film next week in Los Angeles! This week he also announced that Tina Majorino will be returning to reprise the role of Cindy “Mac” Mackenzie, and that Krysten Ritter will be returning as Gia Goodman.

It's going to be great to see all these characters back together again. Thomas ended up giving some fun background info on how Majorino was cast in the series.

Back in 1996, I received an email from a 11-year-old asking me questions about my first novel, RATS SAW GOD, that had come out that year. The girl was doing a book report, and she'd gone the extra mile by tracking me down. One of her questions was, "What do you want to do next?" I replied that I was hoping to transition into the TV and film business. She responded that she'd done some film work herself.

A girl with big dreams of being an actress! How sweet! I thought to myself. I should say something encouraging!

I figured she'd been an extra in a friend's short film, or something along those lines, I wrote back asking her, politely I hoped, what movies she'd been in.

"Waterworld," she wrote. "Corrina Corrina. When a Man Loves a Woman."

She was very sweet, though. She told me I should keep chasing my dreams.

When we began shooting Veronica Mars, I asked our casting director to track down Tina. I wanted to find out what she was up to. I learned she had just finished an indie with good buzz that was going to Sundance. The director of that indie with good buzz was a gentleman named Jared Hess, who had been a camera operator on a short film I'd directed. During the shoot, Jared had shown me some footage — five or six minutes – of a curly-haired boy dragging a GI Joe behind a school bus. He said he was hoping to make a feature film out of it. It sounded like lunacy to me -- how was this going to stretch to 90 minutes?

The film turned out to be Napoleon Dynamite. I've never trusted my sensibilities since.

I really wanted Tina in Veronica Mars. To say I wrote Mac with Tina in mind would be an understatement. I wrote Mac for Tina, and Tina only. Veronica needed a female friend, and a Q to her Bond. Tina felt like just the sort of girl that Veronica would like and respect. I couldn't be more pleased that she'll be with us for the movie.

Here's a statement from Ritter on coming back to the Veronica Mars fold:

G-G-G-Gia!!!! I'm thrilled to be reprising my role of Gia Goodman in the Veronica Mars movie!!! It's gonna be very juicy Marshmallows!!!!! AAAHHHH!!!! Forgive my over-use of exclamation points. Since you can't hear me squealing, I'm reduced to excessive punctuation. Ha!

Veronica Mars has a special place in my heart because it was my first big acting job (!!!!!!) and it was also one of the most lovely on-set experiences you could ever ask for. This will truly be an awesome shoot, not only because we all get to be reunited (can't WAIT!) but because of the revolutionary way this all was able to come to life!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to Rob Thomas, Kristen Bell, Kickstarter, and most of all, to you, our AMAZING FANS, for making it happen. I'm honored to be a part of it!

Majorino and Ritter join Kristen BellJason Dohring (Logan), Enrico Colantoni (Keith),  Percy Daggs III (Wallace), and Chris Lowell (Piz).

The movie will have a presence at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. You can read more details on that here

Thomas previously revealed that "life has taken Veronica away from Neptune. In the years since spoiling Keith's chances to be reelected sheriff, Veronica hasn't taken a case. But something big is about to bring her back home and back to her calling." Veronica and her former classmates will be returning to Neptune for their 10-year high school reunion.
