Dan Harmon Returns to COMMUNITY
Creator Dan Harmon will be back at the helm of NBC's Community. He will once again serve as showrunner for the upcoming fifth season. After some cryptic tweets, Harmon confirmed the long circulating rumors of his return by saying:
"Yes yes yes! I'm back I'm back I'm back. You can thank @joelmchale."
Last year, Harmon was replaced by David Guarascio and Moses Port (Just Shoot Me) after a highly publicized dispute with cast member Chevy Chase, who will not be back next season. I'm still puzzled as to why the network took Chase's side in the first place. After Harmon was forced off, it felt like salt on the wound when Chase was only back in a very diminished capacity, serving little to no purpose in the story lines.
The unofficial goal/motto of "six seasons and a movie" has a much more hopeful ring to it now. Last season, Community felt like a shell of its former self. I came in open minded, but after a few episodes I begrudgingly watched the rest of the season solely in support of the writers and the stellar ensemble cast. Harmon was and will thankfully once again be the heart and creative compass of the show.
Joel McHale, Donald Glover, Yvette Nicole Brown, Gillian Jacobs, Alison Brie, Danny Pudi, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong are expected to return as well for season five.
