STAR WARS REBELS Will Feature Group of Teenagers

Star Wars Rebels is an upcoming CGI animated series set to air next fall. Chronologically, it falls in between Star Wars: Episode III and Episode IV and shows the formation of the Rebel Alliance as the Galactic Empire is growing and strengthening its hold. According to a source, the title refers not only to the Rebel Alliance but also to a group of rebellious teenagers, the purported main characters of the upcoming show.

Really, this isn’t that surprising. We’ve seen both Luke and Anakin Skywalker in their young adult years, and we just saw the recent Star Wars: Episode VIIcasting call that is looking for late teens and early twenty-somethings.

What do you think? Are you excited to watch a Star Wars animated series about a group of teenagers? Do you think this will be marketed more to younger audience? Or do you think it will still retain the broad appeal of its predecessors?

Star Wars Rebels is being produced by Lucasfilm Animation and is scheduled to air on Disney Channel and Disney XD in Fall 2014.
