CAPTAIN PLANET Movie Still in the Works

For some reason Hollywood is still trying to get a big screen live-action adaptation of Captain Planet off the ground. The last we heard, Cartoon Network had teamed up with Angry Filmworks and Transformers producers Don Murphy and Susan Montford to develop it. Now according to THR, Sony Pictures is going to pick up the rights and move the project forward.
The movie is based on the terrible 1990s animated series Captain Planet and the Planeteers. I wasn't a fan of the series growing up--whenever it came on I changed the channel. I never had any interest in Captain Planet, and I still don't. There's nothing interesting about it, and I can't see how they can effectively adapt it into a film unless they develop it as a parody.
The original series follows five teens from around the world including North America, Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia, and South America. They are given powers by the Earth spirit, Gaia, so they can protect the planet from the devastation of evil polluters. When their powers aren't enough, the teens come together and summon Captain Planet.
Were you a fan of Captain Planet, and are you excited that the movie is actually going to happen?
