THE WIZARD of OZ in IMAX 3D - A Mix of Old and New Tech

The digital restoration of The Wizard of Oz is the newest gold standard of restored cinema. What might surprise you is that Oz was never shot on color film. They used special cameras with prisms to split the color and record them to black-and-white film. I own the Blu-ray of this gorgeous restoration which looks more amazing each time I watch it.

As part of Oz's 75th anniversary, Warner Brothers in partnership with IMAX are releasing an IMAX 3D version of the classic. As a person who loves 3D, IMAX, and The Wizard of Oz, I'm excited for this mix of old and new technology. I missed my opportunity when they released the restored Oz in theaters a few years ago. I'm not missing out this time. You will be able to watch the IMAX 3D version in theaters for one week starting September 20th.
