Is Benicio Del Toro Playing The Collector in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY?

Earlier this week we learned that Benicio Del Toro was cast in Guardians of the Galaxy. It wasn't revealed at the time who he would be, but we know his character will be "built to be part of future Marvel films." I figured that he would end up playing Thanos, but according to a source from CBM, the actor is actually playing The Collector. It's no secret that The Collector will be in the film, I just originally thought that Lee Pace would be taking on that role.

Ophelia Lovibond is set to play an aide to a near-immortal character, which gathers artifacts and beings in the hopes of saving them from a foretold galactic annihilation. There's no confirmation if this news is true or not, so treat it as a rumor or speculation for now. I can, however, see The Collector showing up in future Marvel films. Do you think Del Toro fits this role? I still see him more as Thanos, but you never know until you know. Maybe he's actually playing The Controller, and they just got the name mixed up with Collector because I can see that happening.

The movie also stars Chris Pratt as Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, John C. Reilly, Karen Gillan, and Glenn Close. The movie will be released on August 1st, 2014, and here's a little more info on The Collector:

After Taneleer Tivan's daughter Carina matured and abandoned him and his wife Matani, Matani soon died of mysteries causes. Tivan, who had thought that Matani was as immortal as him, could not resist it. He eventually had a vision seeing powerful things that would rise, determined to destroy the universe. He decided to prevent this from happening and dedicate his life to collect artifacts and living beings throughout the universe to place them out of danger. Then, after the destruction of the universe, he could re-populate it and bequeath the knowledge and cultures from past.
