Tentative Plans For SOUTH PARK and FRIDAY THE 13TH Movies

It looks like Paramount Pictures has made tentative plans for new South Park and Friday the 13th movies. It's an interesting story on how this all came about. Warner Bros. Pictures actually owns a percentage of these properties, and they wanted a piece of Christopher Nolan's Interstellar, which was set up at Paramount. To get in on that Interstellar action, they gave up their rights to co-finance the next Friday the 13th horror film with Paramount, as well as their portion of a future South Park movie. The deal also included an agreement to let Paramount co-finance a to-be-determined A-list Warners property.

Warners obviously wanted in on Interstellar bad. They are banking on it being a huge hit. I'm sure it will pay off for them. This deal allows for Paramount to move forward with plans to make South Park and Friday the 13th movies. It has been hard to get any of these movies made because of the complications of the shared rights. That's no longer an issue now.

Sources have revealed though, "Paramount only enjoys the rights for both titles for the next five years and has that amount of time to make follow-up movies." So I guess we can expect to see these movies happen within the next five years.
