Official First Look at Tom Hanks as Walt Disney!

Time has given us our first look at Disney's upcoming movie Saving Mr. Banks. The photo features Tom Hanks as Walt Disney and Emma Thompson as P.L. Travers, the author of Mary Poppins.

Hanks and Thompson are a solid cast just on their own, but the film also stars Colin Farrell,  Jason Schwartzman, Paul Giamatti, and Ruth Wilson

The story follows Walt Disney (Hanks) as he attempts to convince British author P.L. Travers (Thompson) to sell him the rights to make her beloved Mary Poppins story into a the classic film we all know and love today. Farrell plays Travers' father, the man who inspired the character of Mr. Banks. Wilson will play the wife of Colin Farrell's character, Giamatti will play Travers' chauffeur Ralph, and Schwartzman will play Richard Morton Sherman, a songwriter who penned a number of tunes for Disney films, including Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, Winnie the Pooh, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and It's a Small World for the theme park attraction.

It took Disney 14 years to finally acquire the rights to Mary Poppins, the title role eventually played by Julie Andrews. After opposing the film's animated sequences, Travers refused to sell Disney the rights to her other books.

It is hard to make any solid judgments until a trailer is released, but I think this might be an interesting film to watch. The movie will get a limited theatrical release on December 13th and then expand into more theaters on December 20th.

Until Next time…

Billy Out!
