Agent Coulson Won't Be in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

Even though Agent Coulson lives and is part of Agent's of S.H.I.E.L.D., according to Joss Whedon, we won't be seeing him in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Whedon spoke to the Associated Press (via: Coming Soon) after he revealed Age of Ultron at Comic-Con, and when asked about the possible return of Coulson to the cinematic universe in the Avengers sequel he said,

"He could. Right now it’s not something I’m pursuing because I have so much going on in ‘Avengers 2.’ Finding out that Coulson is alive would be an entire B story. And I already have too much movie. That’s better than the other thing.

So it looks like if you want to get in on the Agent Coulson action you'll just have to watch Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., unless he ends up finding a place for him somewhere down the line. He went on to talk about the cinematic universe crossing over into the TV universe saying,

But we also have the movies and we have TV and we need to make sure there’s some crossover, but not so much that people go, ‘Well, I don’t need to see that movie. I saw it on TV.’ If we do that (Marvel Studios President) Kevin Feige is going to come after me with a pitchfork.

It will be fun to see how they handle this, but they are obviously going to keep the the crossover stuff to a minimum. I'm sure he'll eventually show back up in the Marvel cinematic universe at some point... the question is when?
