New TITANFALL Gameplay Demo Nail-Bitingly Intense

Games Titanfall by Christian Mills

I am not one to buy into hype. I got absolutely fed up with Ubisoft’s weekly Splinter Cell: Blacklist trailer release, and I dread seeing games get mutilated by AAA, buzzword-filled demos. Show me gameplay, and if it looks interesting I’ll play it. That being said, Titanfall’s new trailer shown at Gamescon 2013 has caught my eye. I missed the intro to the video, so while I was watching it I had assumed it was a pre-rendered cinematic, but later found out it was a video of the Attrition Multiplayer mode. That caught me off-guard.

The action looks incredibly intense, and the pacing made it look like a set-up or pre-rendered trailer, which is very impressive. I am an FPS fan, and have extensive experience with them, and Titanfall seems to be offering me something I haven’t had in a long time.  A unique shooter experience. The ground combat does remind me of a mix between Blacklight: Retribution and Black Ops 2, with a dash of Halo: Reach or Planetside 2 to get the jetpacks.  (Other sites are comparing it to Brink, but I like to pretend that never happened I preordered that game! What a shame). Then, add in the mechs to spice it up even further.

Although the Titan combat and the jetpack maneuverability could be really cool, features like that don’t make a good game, they make an interesting game, but there are plenty of interesting games that aren’t actually fun to play (cough Prey cough). The developers can’t forgo the basics, the controls, the feel, and the fun. While the game looks like a blast, I just pray it is half the game it promises to be.
