Animation Master Hayao Miyazaki Retires from Feature Filmmaking

Movie Hayao Miyazaki by Joey Paur

It was announced over the weekend by Studio Ghibli president Hoshino Koji that the master of animation Hayao Miyazaki has retired from feature filmmaking. The announcement came from the Venice Film Festival where his final film The Wind Rises screened.

It's sad that we will no longer see any film from this amazing artist, but his legacy will live on through the amazing films that he's made over the years. Some of those film include Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Ponyo, and more.

I grew up watching this mans work, and if he wants to retire to enjoy the rest of his life... awesome! He's definitely earned it.

More details about his retirement will be announced at a dedicated press conference in Japan later this week.
