2024 Oscar Nominations - OPPENHEIMER Leads with 13 Noms and There Were Some Surprising BARBIE Snubs
The nominations for the 96th Oscars have been announced and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer leads the pack with 13 nominations. That’s followed by Searchlight’s Poor Things with 11 nominations, Apple Original Films’ Killers of the Flower Moon with 10 nominations, and Warner Bros’ Barbie got eight noms. All of these films are nominated for Best Picture.
I’m not surprised that these are the films that landed the most nominations. But I was super surprised that Barbie has a couple of big snubs. Greta Gerwig did not land a nomination for Best Director, and Margot Robbie did not get the Best Actress nom, which was surprising because Ryan Gosling was nominated for Best Supporting Actor, which is ridiculous; and America Ferrera landed a nom for Best Supporting Actress. The best performance in that movie, though, came from Robbie, so that’s confusing.
Out of all the Best Picture Nominations, I personally want to see The Holdovers win. That was my favorite film on the list. Oppenheimer will probably end up winning, though. But, they are going up against some other really good films, so we’ll have to wait and see!
Godzilla Minus One also landed that Best Visual Effects Oscar nomination, making it the first Godzilla movie ever nominated for an Oscar, which is cool! Then there’s an animated short that was nominated titled Ninety-Five Senses, that a friend of mine worked on, so that was awesome to see get nominated.
Anyway, check out the full list of nominations below and let us know what you think! What film do you want to see win Best Picture? What other nominations would you like to see win?
