22 Fun, Unique, and Weird Vintage Ben Cooper Halloween Costumes

For those of you who don’t know, Ben Cooper, Inc. was one of the biggest Halloween costume manufacturers in the country from the 1940s until the mid-1980s. They changed the Halloween costume industry by getting licensing to several movie, cartoon, TV, and comic book characters so that they could turn them into costumes.

I grew up with these costumes. One of the first Halloween costumes I ever got was a Ben Cooper, Inc. Incredible Hulk costume. You can read all about my experience with that costume here.

There were a ton of costumes they created while they were in business. None of them are particularly cool-looking, but they do carry that nostalgia, which makes them so awesome. I can still remember the smell of the mask when I put it over my face.

Since Halloween is almost upon us, I thought it would be fun to reminisce about the old-school retro costumes of the past. So here are twenty-two costumes I thought were fun, unique, weird and creepy. I also included some old commercials. Did you ever have any of these costumes growing up?

I thought this Jerry Seinfeld stand-up routine was perfect for this post.

Funny joke on superhero costumes. Live from New York City, Jerry Seinfeld, aided and abetted by a host of friends and fellow comedians, performs his 1998 Emmy-nominated performance on Broadway. Jerry Seinfeld: 'I'm Telling You for the Last Time' (1998)
