24 Movie in Development With 20th Century Studios

20th Century Studios and Imagine Entertainment are in early development on a feature film adaptation of the hit action thriller series, 24.

The original Fox series was created by Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran for Fox, and it starred Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer, an agent from the U.S. government’s fictitious “Counter Terrorist Unit” (CTU).

The series ran for nine seasons between 2001 and 2014 and in the middle of that was the TV film in 2008 titled 24: Redemption.

Producer Brian Grazer hinted at a potential feature version of the series in a recent interview with CNBC.

No story details have been shared for the film, but it’s safe to say that it will involve Jack and a team of CTU agents trying to stop a terrorist attack.

The reason that the original show worked so well is that the story unfolded in real time. I loved that aspect of the series. You obviously don’t get that with a film, but if the creative team behind it feels they have a great new story to tell, I’d watch it.

Sutherland once explained that he feels Bauer’s story is unresolved and he’s leaving the door open to return to the role again someday. He said: “I miss it. It was an incredible experience.

“I have learned that you’re just better off not to be definitive about your answer of whether you will do something or not do something. I love playing that character. I do believe the story is unresolved.

“If something were to be written that made sense to me and that I thought was going to contribute to the franchise then I would be behind it, even if my participation in that were to be limited.

“My involvement will always be predicated on what I perceive is the quality of the writing. If [original showrunner] Howard Gordon is motivated to do it, we’ll see what happens.”
