25 of Our Most Anticipated Films of 2024

The silver screen is set to entertain audiences with a fun and captivating lineup of movies in 2024. From epic sagas to thrilling adventures and heart-wrenching dramas, this promises to be another year to remember for movie enthusiasts. There are some big and ambitious projects this year and there’s a lot of excitement for some of the films that are coming out.

I’ve put together a list of my own 25 most highly anticipated films of 2024, each one I hope ends up being great films that deliver great stories that audiences will love. Check out the list of films below and let us know what movies you're most excited about watching this year!

DUNE: PART TWO - March 1

Director: Denis Villeneuve

Cast: Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Christopher Walken, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Léa Seydoux and Souheila Yacoub.

This next chapter of the story will explore the “mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”

GHOSTBUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE - March 22

Director: Gil Kenan

Cast: Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Patton Oswalt, Kumail Nanjiani, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson.

In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the Spengler family returns to where it all started – the iconic New York City firehouse – to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.

MICKEY 17 - 2024

Director: Bong Joon-ho

Cast: Robert Pattinson, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo, Steven Yeun, and Naomi Ackie.

A disposable employee is sent on a human expedition to colonize the ice world Niflheim. After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact.

CIVIL WAR - April 26

Director: Alex Garland

Cast: Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Jesse Plemons, Sonoya Mizuno and Nick Offerman

The film is set in the near future and the story revolves around the U.S. amid civil war. The government is at war against its citizens as they are striking civilians and killing journalists in the Capitol. The brief synopsis reads: “A race to the White House in a near-future America balanced on the razor’s edge.”

THE FALL GUY - May 3

Director: David Leitch

Cast: Ryan Gosling, Emily Blunt, Aaron Taylor-Johnson

He’s a stuntman, and like everyone in the stunt community, he gets blown up, shot, crashed, thrown through windows and dropped from the highest of heights, all for our entertainment. And now, fresh off an almost career-ending accident, this working-class hero has to track down a missing movie star, solve a conspiracy and try to win back the love of his life while still doing his day job. What could possibly go right?

IF - May 17th

Director: John Krasinski

Cast: Steve Carell, Matt Damon, Jon Stewart, Emily Blunt, Maya Rudolph, Sam Rockwell, Sebastian Maniscalco, Christopher Meloni, Richard Jenkins, and Awkwafina.

The movie is described as "the tale of a man who can see and talk to people's imaginary friends, befriending those that have been forgotten or discarded. However, some imaginary friends, lacking love and friendship, turn to the dark side, and it's up to Reynolds' character to save the world from those that become evil." 

FURIOSA: A MAD MAX SAGA - May 24

Director: George Miller

Cast: Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, Angus Sampson, Nathan Jones, Daniel Webber, Lachy Hulme, and Quaden Bayles

In the film, "As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home."

KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES - May 24

Director: Wes Ball

Cast: Owen Teague, Freya Allen, Peter Macon, Travis Jeffery, Neil Sandilands, Sara Wiseman, Ras-Samuel Welda’abzgi, Lydia Peckham, and Kevin Durand.

The synopsis for the film reads: “Some groups have never heard of Caesar, while others have contorted his teaching to build burgeoning empires. In this setting, one ape leader begins to enslave other groups to find human technology, while another ape, who watched his clan be taken, embarks on a journey to find freedom. A young human woman becomes key to latter’s quest, although she has plans of her own.”

HIT MAN - 2024

Director: Richard Linklater

Cast: Glen Powell and Adria Arjona

Hit Man follows Gary Johnson, “a part-time teacher who moonlights as a mysterious gun man for hire. But there’s a catch in hiring him to off your cheating spouse or abusive boss — he’s working for the cops. When he breaks protocol to help a desperate woman trying to flee an abusive husband, he finds himself becoming one of his false personas, falling for the woman and flirting with turning into a criminal himself.”

BALLERINA - June 7th

Director: Len Wiseman

Cast: Ana de Armas and Ian McShane

Ballerina is set between John Wick: Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 and it follows a young female assassin who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family — as Wick has against those who have done him wrong. Ana de Armas plays as the assassin, who is “trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma.”

INSIDE OUT 2 - June 14

Director: Kelsey Mann

Cast: Kaitlyn Dias, Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Mindy Kaling, Tony Hale, Maya Hawke, and Lewis Black. 

Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust have been running a successful operation by all accounts. However, when Anxiety shows up, they aren't sure how to feel.

THE BIKERIDERS- June 21

Director: Jeff Nichols

Cast: Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, Jodie Comer, Michael Shannon, Boyd Holbrook, and Norman Reedus

The Bikeriders is a “furious drama following the rise of a fictional 1960s Midwestern motorcycle club through the lives of its members. Inspired by Danny Lyon’s iconic book of photography, The Bikeriders immerses you in the look, feel, and sounds of the bare-knuckled, grease-covered subculture of ’60s motorcycle riders. Kathy (Comer), a strong-willed member of the Vandals who’s married to a wild, reckless bikerider named Benny (Butler), recounts the Vandals’ evolution over the course of a decade, beginning as a local club of outsiders united by good times, rumbling bikes, and respect for their strong, steady leader Johnny (Hardy). Over the years, Kathy tries her best to navigate her husband’s untamed nature and his allegiance to Johnny, with whom she feels she must compete for Benny’s attention. As life in the Vandals gets more dangerous, and the club threatens to become a more sinister gang, Kathy, Benny and Johnny are forced to make choices about their loyalty to the club and to each other.”

HORIZON: AN AMERICAN SAGA - June 28

Director: Kevin Costner

Cast: Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jamie Campbell Bower, Luke Wilson, Thomas Haden Church, Jena Malone, Michael Rooker, Alejandro Edda, Will Patton,, and Tatanka Means.

Horizon: An American Saga chronicles “a multi-faceted, 15-year span of pre- and post-Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West. Experienced through the eyes of many, the epic journey is fraught with peril and intrigue from the constant onslaught of natural elements to the interactions with the Indigenous peoples who lived on the land and the determination and at many times ruthlessness of those who sought to settle it.”

A QUITE PLACE: DAY ONE - June 28

Director: Michael Sarnoski.

Cast: Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, Djimon Hounsou, and Alex Wolff

The movie will follow Lupita Nyong’o’s character as she navigates the horrific first moments of the alien invasion in the loudest city of the world, New York City.”

BEVERLY HILLS COP: AXEL F. - 2024

Director: Mark Molloy

Cast: Eddie Murphy, Taylour Paige, Judge Reinhold, Paul Reiser, and Bronson Pinchot

The synopsis reads: “Detective Axel Foley is back on the beat in Beverly Hills. After his daughter’s life is threatened, she and Foley team up with a new partner and old pals Billy Rosewood and John Taggart to turn up the heat and uncover a conspiracy.”

DEADPOOL 3 - June 26

Director: Shawn Levy

Cast: Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Stefan Kapicic, Matthew Macfadyen, Karan Soni, Leslie Uggams, Brianna Hildebrand, Shioli Kutsuna, and Jennifer Garner

After facing some professional setbacks while going through a midlife crisis. Wade Wilson decides to officially retire Deadpool and becomes a used car salesman. But when his friends, family, and the whole world are at stake, Deadpool decides to bring his katanas out of retirement. He recruits an unwilling and wary Wolverine to not only fight for their survival, but ultimately, their legacy.

BORDERLANDS - August 9

Director: Eli Roth

Cast: Cate Blanchett, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Gina Gershon, Edgar Ramirez, Janina Gavankar, Cheyenne Jackson, Charles Babalola, Benjamin Byron Davis, Steven Boyer, Ryann Redmond, and Haley Bennett

Lilith (Blanchett), an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the universe’s most powerful S.O.B., Atlas (Ramirez). Lilith forms an alliance with an unexpected team – Roland (Hart), a former elite mercenary, now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina (Greenblatt), a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg (Munteanu), Tina’s musclebound, rhetorically challenged protector; Tannis (Curtis), the scientist with a tenuous grip on sanity; and Claptrap (Black), a persistently wiseass robot. ALIEN: ROMULOUS - August 16

Director: Fede Alvarez

Cast: Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn, and newcomer Aileen Wu.

Alien: Romulus follows a group of young people on a distant world who find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe. The movie is unconnected to the previous films, and the story is set in another corner of the universe. The pitch that Alvarez initially made is said to be a really good story with a bunch of characters you haven’t seen before.

KRAVEN THE HUNTER - August 30

Director: J.C. Chandor

Cast: Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ariana DeBose, Russell Crowe, Fred Hechinger, Alessandro Nivola, Levi Miller, and Christopher Abbott

The film follows Russian immigrant Sergei Kravinoff sets out on a mission to prove himself as the greatest hunter in the world.

BEETLEJUICE 2 - September 6

Director: Tim Burton

Cast: Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega, Monica Bellucci, and Willem Dafoe

Keaton said of the movie: "Beetlejuice is the most f*ckin' fun you can have working, It's so fun, it's so great. And you know what it is? We're doing it exactly like we did the first movie ... There's a woman in the great waiting room for the afterlife literally with a fishing line – I want people to know this because I love it – tugging on the tail of a cat to make it move." 

WOLFS - September 20

Director: Jon Watts

Cast: George Clooney and Brad Pitt

In the film, Clooney and Pitt star as two professional "fixers" who find themselves hired for the same job. Clooney said of the film, We think it’s a really fun, dark – very dark – nutty film… It feels like an R-rated Ocean’s film."

JOKER: FOLIE A DEUX - October 4

Director: Todd Phillips

Cast: Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga, Zazie Beetz, Catherine Keene, Jacob Lofland, and Brendan Gleeson

The story the Joker sequel will tell, but it’s a musical and its story will mostly be set in Arkham Asylum. The film’s working title, Joker: Folie à Deux, refers to the clinical term for the “shared madness,” hallucinations, and delusions of two people.

GLADIATOR 2 - November 22

Director: Ridley Scott

Cast: Paul Mescal, Connie Nielsen, Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen, Joseph Quinn, and Fred Hechinger

The sequel centers on Lucius, the son of Lucilla, and nephew of Commodus, the son of Roman leader Marcus Aurelius who murdered his father and seized the throne. Commodus met his downfall in the gladiator ring against Maximus, who despite being mortally wounded, took down the emperor before passing on to reunite with his family. Maximus had saved Lucius and his mother, leaving a lasting impact on the young boy.

WICKED - November 27

Director: Jon M. Chu

Cast: Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, and Ethan Slater

A prequel to The Wizard of Oz, Wicked recounts everything that happened before Dorothy sauntered down that iconic yellow brick road — and tells the story of the unlikely friendship between Elphaba, who later becomes the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda, known as the Good Witch. It also reveals how the Wicked Witch got that pointy hat.

NOSFERATU - December 25

Director: Robert Eggers

Cast: Nicholas Hoult, Bill Skarsgård, Willem Dafoe, Nicholas Hoult, Emma Corrin, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Simon McBurney, and Ralph Ineson

In this new reimagining, Nosferatu tells the haunting gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman (Depp) in 19th-century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire (Skarsgard) who stalks her, bringing untold horror with him.
