28 YEARS LATER: THE BONE TEMPLE Deleted Scene Gives Jack O'Connell’s Jimmy Crystal a Funny Moment

A newly released deleted scene from 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is making the rounds online, and fans can’t get enough of it. The clip offers a surprising twist on Jimmy Crystal, played by Jack O'Connell, and it adds an unexpected layer to a character who’s mostly been wrapped in chaos and menace.

The moment picks up right after Jimmy and Dr. Ian Kelson, played by Ralph Fiennes, finish their first tense encounter. As Jimmy walks away, he turns and gives Kelson a casual little wave. Then he freezes.

Kelson looks past him and spots what’s grabbed Jimmy’s attention. Standing in the distance is Alpha infected Samson. Kelson waves. Samson yells back in response.

Jimmy, however, absolutely loses it.

Instead of holding onto any sense of cool, he bolts back toward the rest of the Jimmys waiting on the hilltop. The sudden shift from swagger to panic is what makes the scene so good.

It strips Jimmy of that edge and shows him as just another terrified guy trying to survive in a world that’s completely gone off the rails.

Fans immediately locked in on one specific detail. The run. "HIS F*CKING RUN BRO IS SUCH A LOSER IM CRYING," one X user wrote in response.

"His run is taking me out so bad," said someone else. "I love a deleted scene that is simultaneously brilliant and completely understandable why they cut it. This plays out like a silly headcanon fanfic twitter comic beat," wrote another.

That awkward sprint has turned into the clip’s MVP. It’s frantic and clumsy. In a franchise built on dread, infection, and brutal survival, this brief flash of comedic vulnerability hits in a weirdly satisfying way.

The film was directed by Nia DaCosta and written by franchise veteran Alex Garland, who continues to expand the infected nightmare that began decades ago.

The story follows Alfie Williams’ grieving teen Spike after the events of 28 Years Later, where he set out alone into a ravaged world. Spike ends up tangled in the violent chaos of the Jimmys, eventually crossing paths with Dr. Kelson. Kelson is working tirelessly to find a cure for the infection, accompanied by the unlikely presence of Samson.

The deleted scene doesn’t alter the plot in any major way, which probably explains why it was cut. But it does reshape how we see Jimmy Crystal. He isn’t just a threatening presence or another cog in the madness. He’s scared. He panics. He runs like a kid who just realized he messed up.

With a third 28 Years Later film officially in development, though still untitled and without a director attached, it’ll be interesting to see how the franchise continues evolving its characters. If nothing else, this deleted moment proves there’s still room for personality inside all that carnage.

Enjoy the clip!
