3 Great Christmas Movies to Get You in the Holiday Spirit

The Holiday season is upon us and that means all the Hallmark and Lifetime movies are unleashed on the public. Now not all of these movies are bad, but there’s a much wider variety of holiday movies available to the masses. I would like to propose three movies that are perfect for this time of year that won’t have half the family ripping their hair out. These films are in no particular order of greatness or Christmas-ness.

1.    How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966)

"You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" is a Christmas song that was originally written and composed for the 1966 cartoon special How the Grinch Stole Christmas!. The lyrics were written by Theodor "Dr. Seuss" Geisel, the music was composed by Albert Hague, and the song was performed by Thurl Ravenscroft.

The classic animated version of this story is a holiday must. The narration is spot on and no one, NO ONE does a better rendition of "You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch" than Thurl Ravenscroft. I will admit that at times the animation does look old, but it is old, so there’s that. This is a perfect film to watch before putting the kids down and it only lasts 25 minutes.

2.    Home Alone (1990)

Home Alone is a great movie in general. It’s about a boy who accidentally gets left at home while all of his family goes to Paris for Christmas. He then gets into some crazy hijinks as he tries to stop some burglars from looting his home. This is another fun one to watch with the kids, just be sure to explain to your children that they should never make the booby traps because they’re dangerous.

3.    Die Hard (1988)

Yes, Die Hard is a Christmas movie. It takes place at a Christmas party, on Christmas Eve, the main character is there to celebrate Christmas, there’s Christmas music, there’s a Santa, and that’s just the start. Over the past few years I’ve seen this debate come up and while I was a skeptic at first, I have come around and realized it is a Christmas movie. Unlike the first two films, this one is not a great one for the kids since it has a lot of blood, violence, swearing, and even some nudity.

What are your go-to Christmas movies?
