404Sight is a Spectacular Cruise Through Cyberspace

We had a team at the first annual Salt Lake Gaming Con, and while there I had the distinct privilege of talking to some really spectacular up-and-comers in the indie game development scene. One team out of the University of Utah's prestigious gaming program named Retro Yeti Games gave me a walk-through of their visually stunning game 404Sight, built in the brand-spanking-new Unreal 4 Engine. The project as a whole felt wildly more polished than many other student projects I've played before and stood out of the crowd at the convention.

The inspiration behind the game is the desire to keep connection to the internet free and unaltered, making the game tie in with the ideals of the Net Neutrality movement. You play a character traveling through cyber-space trying to keep information pulsing through fast lanes while avoiding getting throttled by major ISPs. It is a very unique take on a running platform game and is incredibly addicting. Rachel Leiker, an artist and producer on the project, set aside some time to tell me about her team's journey and where they'd like to see their game go from here.
