5 Movies to Watch This October For Halloween
I love Halloween and watching fun scary movies all through October to help get in the spooky mood. So here is a list of five movies I like to watch at this time of year, certainly not a complete list of my favorites but some movies that I think everyone should give a chance and watch.
I’m not a huge fan of slashers/gore horror so you won’t find anything like that. My preferences lean more towards supernatural/thriller movies. So here we go, Anna’s fun Halloween movies list:
Clue
Not a scary movie, but a super fun one to watch at this time of year with your friends who don’t like scary movies. The cult classic based on the famous board game, a group of people need to solve the mystery of the string of murders happening around them before they’re next. This movie is laugh out loud funny and a great way to start the season.
Night of the Living Dead
We head into classic horror territory with this one. The movie that established our notion of zombies still holds up today. A group of people hole up in a house trying to survive the night while being attacked by the living dead — an oldie but a goodie. If you are the squeamish type then just remember that whenever you see a zombie eating someone, they were really just eating some good Kentucky Fried Chicken.
Wait Until Dark
Another older but classic film, this thriller stars Audrey Hepburn as a blind woman being targeted by some unsavory criminals searching for a doll filled with drugs they believe her husband has brought home. This movie has a slow build, but an incredible finale that makes it well worth it.
Carrie
You can go with either the original or the remake on this one, though I like the remake a little bit better. Blasphemous, I know, but I really like what Julianne Moore brought to the character of Margaret White. Carrie is about a girl raised by an extremely religious mother who discovers psychic powers shortly after getting her first period at 16. After being cruelly teased by classmates all her life, Carrie exacts her revenge on them after a prom prank is taken too far. I would recommend watching the newer version with the audio commentary by the director for some pretty interesting insights.
ParaNorman
I saved the best for last. A movie made by the incomparable Laika studios, ParaNorman is about a boy who can see and speak with the dead. When a ceremony goes wrong and zombies come to town, it’s up to Norman and his ragtag crew to save the day and figure out the truth behind the zombies. This movie is one of my favorite movies of all time, amazing animation and an incredible story and message, this is one you can enjoy with the whole family.
So there you have it, five movies to help you get ready for Halloween this year. What do you like to watch at this time of year?
