6 Lackluster Character Posters for Alex Proyas’ GODS OF EGYPT
Wow, I completely forgot that director Alex Proyas (The Crow, Dark City) was making an epic Egyptian mythology film called Gods of Egypt. Thanks to these five character posters that Lionsgate released, I was reminded that this movie is in development, and that it might not be that good.
The posters feature Gerard Butler as Set, the God of the desert; Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Horus, the God of the sky; Brenton Thwaites as Bek, the thief of legend; Chadwick Boseman as Thoth, the God of Wisdom; Elodie Yung as Hathor, the Goddess of love; and Abby Lee as Zaya, the beauty of the Nile.
I like Proyas as a director as he’s made some great movies in his career, but these posters definitely aren’t inspiring any confidence in this movie. If studios are going to spend money on posters to help get people pumped up to see their movies, you’d think they’d create something a lot more badass. Especially for a film called Gods of Egypt.
In this spectacular action-adventure inspired by the classic mythology of Egypt, the survival of mankind hangs in the balance as an unexpected mortal hero Bek (Brenton Thwaites) undertakes a thrilling journey to save the world and rescue his true love. In order to succeed, he must enlist the help of the powerful god Horus (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) in an unlikely alliance against Set (Gerard Butler), the merciless god of darkness, who has usurped Egypt’s throne, plunging the once peaceful and prosperous empire into chaos and conflict. As their breathtaking battle against Set and his henchmen takes them into the afterlife and across the heavens, both god and mortal must pass tests of courage and sacrifice if they hope to prevail in the epic final confrontation.
The movie also stars Geoffrey Rush, Rufus Sewell, and Courtney Eaton. Gods of Egypt is set to be released in theaters on February 26th, 2016.
