650 Hours of Footage Was Shot For STRANGER THINGS 5; New Details and Mysterious Poster Shared

Netflix’s Stranger Things is gearing up for its grand finale, and some new behind-the-scenes footage was recently shared that teases the epic conclusion.

At the 2025 Next on Netflix event, attendees got an exclusive look at the making of Season 5, confirming what we all suspected, this season is bigger, more ambitious, and carries plenty of emotional weight.

The sneak peek, though brief, featured the return of Vecna, a glimpse of the Creel house’s stained-glass window, and Will screaming in what appeared to be the Upside Down.

Millie Bobby Brown’s voiceover added to the chills as she said: “They don’t get to write the ending, but we do.”

While the teaser didn’t spill many secrets, the Duffer Brothers took the stage to drop some new details. One of the biggest? They shot over 650 hours of footage for the final season, stretching across an entire year of production.

That’s an insane amount of content! Even considering previous hints that season 5 would feel like eight feature-length films. Ross Duffer said:

“We spent a full year filming this season. By the end, we’d captured over 650 hours of footage. So, needless to say, this is our biggest and most ambitious season yet. It’s like eight blockbuster movies. It’s pretty insane.”

Matt Duffer then went on and made it clear that this season is also their most personal: “At the same time, we think it’s our most personal story. It was super intense and emotional to film—for us and for our actors.

“We’ve been making this show together for almost 10 years. There was a lot of crying. There was so much crying. The show means so much to all of us, and everyone put their hearts and souls into it. And we hope—and believe—that passion will translate to the screen.”

Season 5 may be the end of the road for Mike, Eleven, Hopper, Dustin, Lucas, and the rest of Hawkins, but it’s not the end of Stranger Things. The Duffers confirmed that more stories set in this universe are in the pipeline, but they’re keeping specifics under wraps.

Matt shared: “But while this might be the end of the story for Mike, Hopper, Dustin, Lucas, Eleven, and the others, it’s not goodbye for Stranger Things. There are more Stranger Things stories to tell and in the works.”

“It’s a bit early at this point to talk about them, but we’re deeply involved in every one—it’s very important to us that anything with the Stranger Things name on it is of the highest quality and not repetitive—that it has a reason to exist and always blazes its own path.

“And also, it needs to basically just be… awesome. Or we need to think it’s awesome. And there are a lot of what we think are awesome things in the pipeline.”

This isn’t the first time the Duffers have teased spin-offs, and we already know an animated series is in the works. But for now, all eyes are on Season 5.

Stranger Things season 5 is set to premiere later this year. I also include a mysterious poster that was released below. It comes with the caption "Who’s *really* looking for Jane Hopper?," and shows a picture of Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) along with her details and the last sighting of her.
