7 Reasons to Be Excited For FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE

FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE is only a few days away and we wanted to quickly go through all the reasons why we are excited about the game! From new ways to fight to lengthened story elements, there is a lot remade and changes in this game that make us very impatient to play the game.

Two Sides of Combat

The combat used to be a turn-based battle system that forces players to make decisions while maximizing their abilities, limit-gauges and characters’ strengths. Now, we have two very different yet connected parts of combat. The first part is quick and exhilarating action, lots of shooting, slashing and punching to do lots of damage to enemies. But all this attacking fills up the ATB bar, which when filled is used to slow down the fight to choose epic abilities, items or powerful magic to be unleashed on enemies. Juggling between the strategic ATB moves and active battling feels great, like a grand dance of swords and magic, trying to kill enemies in the most effective way possible while staying alive.

Visuals

Originally on the Playstation, Final Fantasy VII looked crazy good for it’s time. Final Fantasy VII Remake looks just as impressive now as the original did when it came out. The attention to detail, fluid and stunning combat mixes well with the cinematics; be it large action set pieces or more intimate conversations. It amazes me how much this game looks like the fully animated Advent Children movie, and sometimes even better than it.

Expanded Midgar

Midgar was a pretty good-sized city, with many NPCs, places to explore, houses to enter and secrets to uncover in the original. I am not sure how much has been expanded, but it looks like the city of Midgar is far more vibrant, alive and interactive in the Remake. It isn’t an open world, but there are going to be areas, places, and people that will be far more realized now than in the original game.

Story

Like the city of Midgar, Final Fantasy VII Remake is expanding on various things and letting players explore a bit more of the original game. We are unsure now (because we haven’t played it through yet) how much is added, but just from trailers, we see a few characters that weren’t in the early sections of the original game popping up now. Either way, it will be exciting to see the original game and anything extra happen in the remake with these slick graphics.

Playable Characters

Sick of being the stoic swordsman? Want to shoot things, punch things or rain fire on the enemies? Well, now you can! We will be able to directly control many characters in battle. In reality, the original game also had us controlling the other characters in battle, but because the character we ran around as was always Cloud, it never felt like we were really in control of Barret or Tifa. But now, we get to swap characters in battle and we can just send Cloud to hack at enemies while we take control of Tifa to beat the lights out of a robot.

Soundtrack

The original Final Fantasy VII soundtrack is easily one of the best video game soundtracks of all time. This being said, now we get treated to a fully remade soundtrack with added songs in masterful HD. Just from playing the demo and hearing the first few songs made us freak out with excitement to hear the rest of the songs and character themes throughout the game.

Things To Do

Not only are we getting a longer look at the Final Fantasy VII story with this Remake, but we are also getting some new mini-games, new side quests, and stories to further explore the world of Final Fantasy VII. We are hoping for some great secret quests that will yield powerful weapons, materia or show us some brand new story beats. Whatever it is, we're ready to explore the world and various new things to do.

What are you most excited about with Final Fantasy VII Remake? Is it teaming up with Tifa and Barret? Is it taking down classic bosses in new ways? Or is it the beauty of a classic game brought to modern technology? Let us know in the comments below!
