8 New Character Posters For The Sci-Fi Epic VALERIAN Show New Robot and Alien Characters

Valerian is one of those movies that I have high hopes for. Usually, there is one dark horse movie coming out in the summer that I have a lot of hope will succeed. In the past, those movies have been ones that have surpassed my expectations like Scott Pilgrim vs the World. This year, the movie I'm extremely excited about is Luc Besson's Valerian. It looks so wonderfully bizarre and features a relatively less famous cast of actors, a great trailer soundtrack, and now we have a little bit of information showing more of the cast.

The new character posters show the two main characters we are most familiar with from the trailers, namely Valerian and Laureline, who are played by Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne, as well as Rihanna who plays the character Bubble. Some of the new characters that we are introduced to in the posters include a couple of robots named Omelite and K-Tron and some aliens by the names of Doghan Daguis, Melo, and The Pearls.

I have to say the one thing that stands out the most for the posters is the color. It's so bright and vibrant compared to many of the space movies we are accustomed to. Maybe not Guardians of the Galaxy, but that was a departure from dark and gritty landscapes as well. I also love the unique designs of the characters. Surprisingly, I have not read the comic, and part of me wants to see the movie first and get my impression of it before reading the comic.

The design of each of the aliens is fun and colorful and very reminiscent of The Fifth Element, which is fitting because it comes from the same director. I personally love Besson's work and have followed his work since he made Leon, The Professional. He has such a great take on characters that push the line into a place of fantasy but with gritty bits of realism.

These posters just get me even more excited for the film. I really want this to blow people away. It's always great to see new wild ideas brought to the big screen like this, instead of just sequels, reboots, and remakes. Take a look at the posters below.

Valerian (DeHaan) and Laureline (Delevingne) are special operatives for the government of the human territories charged with maintaining order throughout the universe. Valerian has more in mind than a professional relationship with his partner — blatantly chasing after her with propositions of romance. But his extensive history with women, and her traditional values, drive Laureline to continuously rebuff him.
Under directive from their Commander (Clive Owen), Valerian and Laureline embark on a mission to the breathtaking intergalactic city of Alpha, an ever-expanding metropolis comprised of thousands of different species from all four corners of the universe. Alpha’s seventeen million inhabitants have converged over time- uniting their talents, technology and resources for the betterment of all. Unfortunately, not everyone on Alpha shares in these same objectives; in fact, unseen forces are at work, placing our race in great danger.

The film also has a great supporting cast that includes John GoodmanRihannaRutger Hauer, and Ethan Hawke. It's set to be released in theaters on July 21, 2017
