97th Oscar Nominations: An Awards Race with EMILIA PEREZ Leading the Pack

The 97th Oscar nominations are here, and unlike last year’s predictable dominance by Oppenheimer, this year’s race is a cinematic free-for-all.

Leading the charge is Emilia Pérez, the bold, genre-defying musical about a Mexican cartel leader’s gender transition, which secured a historic 13 nominations—the most ever for a non-English-language film.

Joining it in the Best Picture race are Anora, The Brutalist, Wicked, Dune: Part Two, I’m Still Here, Nickel Boys, The Substance, A Complete Unknown, and Conclave.

Wicked and The Brutalist trail close behind with 10 nominations each. Wicked saw nods for its leads Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, while Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist scored nominations for Adrien Brody, Guy Pearce, and Corbet’s directing.

The Palme d’Or-winning Anora received six nominations, while The Substance earned five, including Demi Moore’s first-ever Oscar nod and a directing nomination for Coralie Fargeat.

Notably, Edward Berger (Conclave) and Jon Chu (Wicked) were snubbed in the Best Director category, despite their films being considered major contenders.

Among surprises, Jeremy Strong and Sebastian Stan snagged acting nods for The Apprentice, a film that was overshadowed by controversy stemming from former President Donald Trump’s legal threats against its release.

I’m not really into the Oscars as much as I used to be. There are a good amount of films that have been nominated that I haven’t even seen yet.

You can check out the full list of nominations below. Check them out and let us know what films you’d like to see win.
