A 17th-Century Vampire Grave Discovered in Poland of Skeleton with a Sickle Across Her Neck
This latest ancient discovery in Poland is absolutely fascinating! The skeleton of a “female vampire” has been discovered by archaeologists at a 17th-century graveyard in Pień, Poland.
The dig was being conducted by a team of researchers from Nicolaus Copernicus University that were led by Professor Dariusz Poliński. The skeleton they found was pinned to the ground and there was a sickle placed across her neck.
The sickle was used by superstitious people at the time just in case the dead person they thought was a vampire came back to life, it would slice off their head when they tried to sit up.
Poliński said: “The sickle was not laid flat but placed on the neck in such a way that if the deceased had tried to get up… the head would have been cut off or injured.”
The professor also revealed that the skeleton had a padlock wrapped around her toe, which apparently strengthens the theory that she was considered a vampire at the time of her death.
I love history.
