A 6-Year Old Boy Inspired a Rotating Waterslide

I am a huge fan of Phineas and Ferb and the creativity those boys have, and it looks like we may have a case in the real world of something worthy of the boys’ ingenuity. The Slidewheel is a waterslide that rotates 360 degrees and is being made by wiegand.maelzer GmbH and will allow 3 rafts of 4 people to enjoy this crazy ride at once! The managing director and co-founder, Rainer Maelzer, sat down with Attractions Magazine recently and had this to say about the initial idea:

Believe it or not, the ride was inspired by a six-year old boy from Switzerland back in 2012. He had a vision of a rotating waterslide, we patented that idea and have kept ourselves busy developing it ever since. A small body slide with a total height of approximately 10 meters has evolved into a 24-meter-high monster attraction weighing 130 tons and capable of bringing joy to 12 people at once.

How crazy is that!? A six-year-old boy inspired a company to create a waterslide/Ferris Wheel hybrid of sorts for people to enjoy! The only thing that would make this scenario more like Phineas and Ferb is if the boy built the attraction himself in a matter of minutes. Don’t like to get wet? Later in the interview, Maelzer says they are already working on a dry version that could be implemented in even more places. Watch the test footage below (starts around 1:00, but the time-lapse is pretty cool) and let us know how excited you are to give this a try

A unique hybrid of family raft ride and rotating Ferris Wheel, the first prototype Slidewheel from German manufacturer wiegand.maelzer GmbH was recently successfully tested in Europe.
