A BIRDS OF PREY Sequel Is Reportedly in Development Without Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn

The folks over at That Hashtag Show are reported that Warner Bros. is developing a Birds of Prey sequel. They say the film has been officially greenlit, but Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn will not be a part of it.

While Harley Quinn won’t be back, the film will continue the storyline of the first film, and it will see the return of Jurnee Smollett as Black Canary, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Rosie Perez might return as Huntress and Renee Montoya.

It’s also said that Batgirl will appear in the film, “although again there was no mention of casting. However there is a strong possibility that Leslie Grace would continue to play the character in this film.” Grace is playing Batgirl in the standalone film being developed for HBO Max.

While there is no script yet, there is an outline for the film, and in that outline is apparently says that The Calculator will be a villain in the story, and it will involve his robot assassin, Burnrate. It was reported that The Calculator “will have an obsession with Barbara Gordon, and this obsession will later prove deadly.”

It’s interesting to hear that Robbie won’t be returning for the sequel. She’s super invested in this character ,and she recently appeared in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. They was freakin’ fantastic in that movie! I know the two have said they want to work with each other on a future DC project involving Harley Quinn, so maybe that’s what she is looking to do. I hope that’s what she doing, because I’d love to see Robbie and Gunn work together on a Harley Quinn movie! We’ll just have to wait and see.

No director is attached to the Birds of Prey sequel yet, and the project is still super early in development, so we’ve got a few years before we start to see anything from it.

What are your thoughts on a Birds of Prey sequel being made without Harley Quinn?
