A BLOODSHOT Sequel is in The Works with Vin Diesel Set To Return
In case you don’t remember, Vin Diesel’s Bloodshot was released in theaters just as the whole world was shutting down due to the pandemic. Within a couple of weeks of the theatrical release, the film was released on VOD and streaming platforms. The movie earned $33.48 million at the box office on a reported production budget of $45 million before theater chains shut down.
That strategy obviously proved to be successful for DMG Entertainment and Sony Pictures because Bloodshot is actually getting a sequel. I personally didn’t really care for the first film and I didn’t think we would see any sequels, but I guess I was wrong.
Vin Diesel is set to return to the sequel and reprise his role as Bloodshot and DMG Entertainment Creative Head and filmmaker Dan Mintz confirmed plans for the sequel and expectations for it telling CBR:
"I think [Bloodshot] was very successful in that respect, a lot of people saw it and it did very well in the post-release rollout but you can't use the same evaluation process, pre-COVID, to this. [Are] Vin Diesel and all those people going to still continue? Yes, because it did so well and the response to it has been so well, it's just that the response has been in a non-transparent environment, as opposed to a transparent environment like box office numbers."
I’m surprised by this news, but it’s got to be pretty cool for the creative team behind the film. Here’s the synopsis for the movie:
After he and his wife are murdered, Marine Ray Garrison (Vin Diesel) is resurrected by a secret team of scientists. Enhanced with nanotechnology, he becomes a superhuman, biotech killing machine – Bloodshot. As Ray first trains with fellow super-soldiers, he cannot recall anything from his former life. But when his memories flood back and he remembers the man that killed both him and his wife, he breaks out of the facility hellbent on revenge, only to discover that there’s more to the conspiracy than he originally thought
Deadshot was directed by Dave Wilson, who is Deadpool director Tim Miller's partner at Blur Studios. The film was written by Eric Heisserer (Arrival) and also stars Toby Kebbell, Michael Sheen, Eiza González, Talulah Riley, Alex Hernandez, and Outlander’s Sam Heughan.
Did you like Bloodshot and are you excited to learn that it’s getting a sequel?
