A Coronavirus Workplace Comedy Is Being Developed by the Producers of THE OFFICE

TV Comedy by Joey Paur

It begins. Like many of you, I expected there to be a wave of movies and TV shows that will use the coronavirus pandemic as a major plot point to the stories they tell.

Well, the producers of The Office, Ben Silverman and Paul Lieberstein, have been inspired by our current situation to develop a remote workplace comedy series. Silverman said:

“So many of us are jumping on daily Zoom meetings — for work and beyond. We are in a new normal and are personally navigating ways to remain connected and productive at work and in our home lives. With the brilliant Paul Lieberstein at the helm, we think we have a series that not only brings humor and comfort during this troubling time but will also be an inventive and enduring workplace comedy for years to come.”

The story for the show “is set around a wunderkind boss who, in an effort to ensure his staff’s connectedness and productivity, asks them all to virtually interact and work face-to-face all day.” Lieberstein went on to say:

“Start with the office comedy, lose the office and you’re just left with comedy. The math works.”

Yeah, I can see the comedy and humor in a series like this, but it might be a little too soon. I mean, were still in the middle of this crap. There are a lot of different frustrating aspects of working remotely that could make for good comedy. Especially with the kids being stuck at home as well doing remote school. Hey, there’s the idea for the new teen comedy!

In my own situation, I find myself having to help my kids with online school while also juggling my own workload, and it’s pretty crazy and can be super frustrating at times! But… we’re getting through it!

What do you all think of a coronavirus workplace comedy? Is this a series that you’d tune in to watch?
