A Ghost-Slaying Warrior Faces a Deadly Palace Curse in Netflix’s THE EAST PALACE Trailer
Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for The East Palace, an upcoming Korean action-fantasy horror series that looks like it’s bringing together palace intrigue, supernatural terror, mystery, and some slick ghost-slaying action.
Set to premiere this summer, the series is a fully Korean-produced Netflix original that centers on a cursed royal palace plagued by dark secrets and restless spirits. From what the teaser reveals, audiences can expect a mix of eerie supernatural horror and historical fantasy, with a mystery that stretches far beyond what appears on the surface.
The story follows Nam Joo-hyuk as Gu-cheon, a ghost-slayer capable of moving between the worlds of the living and the dead. Armed with a blade forged to cut down spirits, he’s called upon when strange and terrifying events begin unfolding within the royal palace.
Joining him is Roh Yoon-seo as Saeng-gang, a court lady with a gift that proves just as valuable as any weapon. She can hear the voices of the dead, and together they find themselves pulled into an investigation that uncovers long-buried truths hidden within the palace walls.
The official synopsis offers a deeper look at the mystery at the heart of the series: “When the crown prince is found dead in a pond, a chilling rumor paralyzes the palace: the pond spirit has returned to wipe out the King’s bloodline.
“The King (Cho Seung-woo) fiercely dismisses the killings as mere conspiracy, until his last remaining son, Prince Yeongan collapses. Driven to total desperation, the King secretly summons Gu-cheon (Nam Joo-hyuk), who can traverse the Realm of Gwi and defeat them.
“To ensure his loyalty, the King pairs him with Saeng-gang (Roh Yoon-seo), a court lady born with the ability to hear spirits. Gu-cheon embarks on the life-or-death mission to destroy the spirit and lift the curse of the East Palace, or die within its walls.
“But as Gu-cheon hunts the spirit and Saeng-gang secretly spies on his every move, the two draw closer to uncovering the dark truth of the East Palace that lies beneath the pond.”
That makes for an intriguing supernatural thriller, but the teaser hints at something even bigger. Along with ghostly encounters and ancient curses, the story appears to delve into political power struggles, hidden histories, and a mystery connected to a dark realm lurking beneath the palace grounds. Everything seems to point back to the ominous pond where the nightmare began.
Judging by the footage, Netflix has invested heavily in the production. The visuals look fantastic, blending lavish historical settings with unsettling horror imagery and intense action sequences.
The East Palace, also known as 동궁 in Korea, comes from director Choi Jung-kyu, whose previous work includes The Flower in Prison, Drinking Solo, The Devil Judge, Soundtrack #2, and the film So Far So Close. The screenplay was written by Kwon So-ra and Seo Jea-won, with production handled by Showrunners and Imaginus.
Netflix continues to expand its lineup of Korean genre programming, and The East Palace looks like it could be one of the more exciting additions to arrive this year. Between its ghost-slaying hero, palace conspiracy, supernatural mystery, and horror-infused action, this is definitely one to keep an eye on.
The East Palace begins streaming on Netflix on July 17, 2026.
