A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS Poster Teases the Return to Westeros in HBO’s Next GAME OF THRONES Chapter
HBO is taking fans back to Westeros with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and the network just dropped the first official poster for the highly anticipated Game of Thrones spin-off series.
The new artwork features Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall, better known as “Dunk,” and Dexter Sol Ansell as his young squire and secret Targaryen prince, “Egg.”
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is charging ahead as the next major Game of Thrones expansion. Filmed in Belfast, Northern Ireland, the series recently wrapped production and is set to premiere this coming January on HBO and Max.
The show will reportedly have a smaller, more personal scope compared to Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. Co-creator Ira Parker explained how that stripped-down approach even influenced the show’s title sequence:
“All decisions came down to Dunk, trying to channel the type of person he is into every aspect of this show, even the title sequence. The title sequences on the original [Game of Thrones] and House of the Dragon are big and epic and incredible. Ramin Djawadi’s score is orchestral and large and beautiful. That's not really Dunk’s M.O. He’s plain and he’s simple and he’s to-the-point. He doesn't have a lot of flash to him.”
Joining Claffey and Ansell are Finn Bennett (True Detective: Night Country) as Aerion Targaryen, Bertie Carvel (The Crown) as Baelor Targaryen, Tanzyn Crawford (Tiny Beautiful Things) as Tanselle, Daniel Ings (The Gentlemen) as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, and Sam Spruell (Fargo) as Maekar Targaryen.
The series adapts George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, set nearly a century before the events of Game of Thrones. The story follows Dunk, the future Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, and Egg, the future King Aegon V Targaryen, as they embark on a journey through a still-restless Westeros.
The official series synopsis reads: “Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”
Season 1 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight will adapt Martin’s first novella, The Hedge Knight (1998). If the series continues, HBO plans to follow up with adaptations of The Sworn Sword (2003) and The Mystery Knight (2010).
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premieres January 2026 on HBO and Max.
