A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS Season 2 Casts Key Roles From THE SWORN SWORD

HBO’s next trip through Westeros is picking up steam. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is already back in production in Belfast, and we’ve finally got confirmation on the major new players joining Season 2.

Season 2 adapts The Sworn Sword, the second Dunk and Egg novella from George R. R. Martin, and the series has locked in three crucial characters pulled straight from the page.

Lucy Boynton has signed on as Lady Rohanne Webber, better known as the Red Widow. She’s the sharp-witted and fiercely independent head of House Webber and the Lady of Coldmoat.

Boynton recently appeared in Barbie, Bohemian Rhapsody, and A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story, and she’s about to bring one of Martin’s more formidable noblewomen to life.

Joining her is Babou Ceesay, who sci-fi fans may recognize from Alien: Earth, where he played the cyborg Morrow. Ceesay will take on the role of Ser Bennis of the Brown Shield, a sworn sword, meaning a knight pledged to serve a specific lord.

Bennis isn’t exactly a shining example of chivalry, which should make for some tense interactions on the road.

Then there’s Peter Mullan, known to many from Ozark and recently cast as Vesemir in the final seasons of The Witcher. Mullan will portray Ser Eustace Osgrey, the aging and prideful head of House Osgrey.

In the source material, Dunk becomes a sworn sword in Eustace’s service, only to get tangled in a bitter local dispute with Lady Rohanne.

These three characters will serve as central figures in the next chapter of Dunk and Egg’s journey. Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall, played by Peter Claffey, and Prince Aegon “Egg” Targaryen, played by Dexter Sol Ansell, officially set off at the end of Season 1 as hedge knight and squire after the events of The Hedge Knight.

Now their travels lead them into a powder keg of land disputes, pride, and political tension.

The first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms wrapped on HBO and HBO Max to strong praise from critics and longtime readers of Martin’s novellas. Instead of palace intrigue and dragon warfare on a massive scale, the series has leaned into a more grounded story about loyalty, honor, and the messy reality of knighthood.

Season 2 continues that approach by focusing on The Sworn Sword, much like Season 1 closely followed The Hedge Knight.

Co-creator and showrunner Ira Parker recently opened up about how he’s handling fan reactions as production continues. He previously said:

“It's really interesting seeing reactions to the work that we've done so far, But at the end of the day, that's the enjoyment of being a fan. I have no agenda in this, you know? I wanna tell good stories about these characters that I love, and I want it to be fun. That's the goal.”

It’s a simple mission statement, but it lines up perfectly with what’s made this series work so far. The Dunk and Egg stories aren’t about sprawling wars. They’re about personal clashes, moral choices, and how two unlikely companions navigate a complicated realm.

Season 2 is expected to premiere in 2027, which gives the creative team plenty of time to do this story justice.
