A Live-Action Adaptation of ERAGON in Development at Disney+

Disney+ is producing a live-action series adaptation of the YA fantasy book property Eragon. The books come from author Christopher Paolini and he will serve as co-writer on the series, which will be based on The Inheritance Cycle series with Eragon being the first of the four books in that series.

The Inheritance Cycle tells the story of “a farmboy named Eragon who discovers an egg that hatches into a dragon he names Saphira. Through their bond and the help of his mentor Brom, Eragon learns to be a Dragon Rider, an ancient order that had long been thought to be wiped out by the evil king Galbatorix. Eragon and Saphira set out to defeat Galbatorix and free the land of Alagaësia from his tyranny.”

Eragon was self-published in 2002 and over the years it has grown to be an incredibly popular and successful series with over 41 million copies being sold worldwide. There’s no doubt that fans will embrace this news of the series, and Disney+ is the perfect fit for this fantasy story.

This isn’t the first time the book has been adapted. Back in 2006 there was a film made with Ed Speleers playing Eragon, Rachel Weisz providing the voice of Saphira, Jeremy Irons as Brom, and John Malkovich as Galbatorix. The movie wasn’t very good, so it great that it might actually get a proper adaptation this time around!

Bert Salke will executive produce under his Co-Lab 21 banner, with 20th Television producing.
