A Live-Action SHE-RA Series in Development at Amazon
Amazon Studios is developing a live-action series based on She-Ra. The project is in early development and DreamWorks Animation will serve as an executive producer on the series. They recently produced the Netflix animated series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.
It’s explained that this live-action version of She-Ra will be a “new, standalone story and will not be connected to the animated show.” I imagine that would be the case as one production is produced for Netflix, while the other is with Amazon.
In the original animated series, She-Ra’s real name is Princess Adora, “the long lost twin sister of Prince Adam, a.k.a He-Man. She was kidnapped as a baby by Hordak of the Evil Horde and taken to the planet Etheria, where she was mind-controlled into serving as a Force Captain of the Horde. He-Man eventually helped her break the mind control and gave her the Sword of Protection, which allows her to transform into She-Ra and grants her incredible power.”
The original She-Ra: Princess of Power series ran for two seasons between 1985 and 1986 and there were nearly a hundred episodes produced. The Amazon project is the first time that She-Ra will be brought to life in live-action.
It’ll be interesting to see how She-Ra’s story is handled in this series and if they will also work in her connection to He-Man, which the She-Ra and the Princesses of Power series cut out.
