A Live-Action TWISTED METAL Series Is Being Developed by the Writers of DEADPOOL
Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions are developing a live-action series based on the popular Twisted Metal video game franchise. The series is described as an action-comedy, and it will be based on an original take by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writers behind the Deadpool films and Zombieland.
I remember when the first Twisted Metal game was released in 1995. My brothers and I played that game all the time! We loved that damn game, and I’m curious to see what Reese and Wernick have in store for this series! I’m a big fan of their previous work, so I’m confident that this project is going to turn out to be something incredibly cool.
The show is about “a motor-mouthed outsider who is offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown named who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck, whom fans of the game will know as Sweet Tooth.”
Asad Qizilbashm, head of PlayStation Productions said in a statement:
“’Twisted Metal’ is one of the most beloved franchises from PlayStation. We are thrilled to have such a great team working on bringing this iconic game to life for the fans.”
While Reese and Wernick are attached to executive produce the series along with Will Arnett. Michael Jonathan Smith, who most recently wrote for and produced Cobra Kai, will write the series and executive produce it. Glenn Adilman, executive vice president of comedy development for Sony Pictures Television, added:
“We love Twisted Metal in all its twisted insanity. Michael Jonathan Smith hit it out of the park with an action-packed, brilliantly funny adaptation and we are grateful for the support of Rhett, Paul, Will and our friends at PlayStation.”
It’s also reported that Arnett might provide the voice Sweet Tooth, but as of right now, no deal is currently in place for him to take on the role. It’s definitely not hard to imagine him voicing Sweet Tooth, though!
What do you all think about Twisted Metal being adapted into a series by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick?
