A Live-Action VOLTRON Film Is Currently in Development at Universal Pictures
When Universal Pictures teamed up with DreamWorks Animation, they ended up with the rights to a live-action version of the classic 1980s cartoon series Voltron. The film was quietly being developed by Jeffery Katzenberg. Now Universal is pushing it forward, and they've hired David Hayter to write the script. Hayter has worked on films such as X-Men, X-Men 2, and Watchmen. As you can see, the guy has a solid track record, and he seems like a fantastic choice to take on the writing duties of Voltron.
This film has been a long time coming, and it's a project that I've been very excited about. I'm a huge Voltron fan! Like many of you, I grew up on the original cartoon series, and now there's an incredibly awesome new animated series on Netflix that you should all be watching!
It's not hard to imagine what a live-action Voltron film would look like, and in my mind it looks like one of the most epic adaptations of an '80s cartoon series that has ever been made. The visuals in my brain are insane! There's so much awesome potential here, and I hope that Universal ends up hiring a great visionary director to take on the challenge. I'd personally love to see Moon and Warcraft director Duncan Jones take it on. He already has a solid relationship with Universal, and he knows how to tell a great visual story. Who do you think would be a good choice to direct Voltron?
