A Live-Action VOLTRON Movie Is Finally Moving Forward With RED NOTICE Director Rawson Marshall Thurber

It looks like Voltron is finally going to get that live-action movie that fans have been waiting for. Rawson Marshall Thurber, the director of Red Notice, Sky Scraper, and Central Intelligence, is set to co-write and direct the movie. Thurber came up with the story and will co-write the script with Ellen Shanman.

On top of that, a bidding war has erupted in Hollywood over the project, and everyone is trying to get in on the action. It’s said that Warner Bros., Universal Pictures, and Amazon Studios are among the six or seven studios and streamers trying to land the project. Netflix is not in the running.

I grew up watching Voltron, it was one of my favorite cartoon shows when I was a kid. I’ve been wondering when Hollywood would finally get around to actually developing a live-action adaptation of it. There have been a few failed attempts over the years, but now it’s actually happening. I just hope that Thurber is the right person for the job. I’ve enjoyed some of the films that he’s made, but Voltron is a completely different kind of film than anything he’s ever done before.

Voltron: Defender of the Universe follows five young pilots in a battalion named the Robot Lions, which are vehicles that join together to form a mega robot known as Voltron. Together they fight against Emperor Zarkon, the cruel leader of the Galra Empire, who for over 10,000 years has been searching the universe for the Voltron lions.

Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman are producing with Bob Koplar, the head of World Events Productions, the company that controls the Voltron property.

I hope that Thurber can pull this off and actually deliver a badass Voltron movie!
