A Live-Action/Animation Hybrid PINK PANTHER Movie Is in Development with the Director of SONIC THE HEDGEHOG

MGM is developing a new film based on the classic animated character The Pink Panther. The film will be a live-action/animated hybrid, and it will be helmed by the director of Sonic the Hedgehog, Jeff Fowler. The script for the film will be written by Chris Bremner (Bad Boys For Life, M.A.S.K.).

Michael De Luca, MGM Film Group chairman, and Pamela Abdy, MGM Film Group president, said in a statement:

“Popular the world over, the legacy of the iconic Pink Panther has endured for more than 50 years and continues to be discovered by new generations. We are so happy to come together with Jeff, Chris, Larry, Julie, Dan, Jonathan, Walter and Ryan to bring one of MGM’s most well-loved franchise back to the big screen and in a way audience have never seen before.”

The Pink Panther is MGM’s longest and most successful comedy franchise. It was created by the late writer and director Blake Edwards. His wife, Julie Andrews Edwards, is a producer on the film along with Dan Lin, Jonathan Eirich, and Walter Mirisc.

I love watching the original Pink Panther films when I was a kid. The ones that starred Peter Sellers as a bumbling French detective. Edwards wrote and directed all eight films in the franchise. The film also introduced the world to Henry Mancini’s memorable Pink Panther theme song.

I also enjoyed Steve Martin’s Pink Panther films, but the original movies are definitely the best. There’s no way this new film will be as good as those original movies. I’m not really a fan of the live-action animated hybrid films being made these days. None of them have even come close to Who Framed Roger Rabbit, which set a super high bar.

I imagine this new Pink Panther movie will just be more of the same.
