A New DUNGEONS & DRAGONS Adventure Game Is Coming and It’s All About the Solo Quest

Wizards of the Coast just rolled the dice on something big.

They recently announced an exclusive publishing deal with a brand-new studio called Giant Skull, and together they're working on a single-player action-adventure game set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe. No party required, this one’s for the solo adventurers.

Giant Skull might be new, but it’s led by Stig Asmussen, who directed God of War III and both Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor. After leaving Respawn Entertainment in 2023, Asmussen launched Giant Skull in 2024, and this upcoming D&D game will be their first title out of the gate.

The game is being developed from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5, but so far there’s no trailers, concept art, or gameplay teases have been revealed. Just the promise of a narrative-driven, action-focused journey through a realm that’s ripe with dragons, dungeons, and (presumably) dice-based drama.

Wizards of the Coast is clearly expanding its gaming footprint. After Baldur’s Gate 3 became a breakout RPG success, the company has been lining up a variety of video game projects, some fantasy, some sci-fi, some leaning into licensed properties.

There’s G.I. Joe: Snake Eyes from Atomic Arcade, another D&D game with a magic focus from Invoke, and Exodus, a sci-fi RPG from Archetype Entertainment. Skeleton Key is also cooking up something in the horror-suspense lane, and Magic: The Gathering Arena is still getting regular updates.

As for Giant Skull’s D&D game? No release date yet but it promises to take fans on a new adventure, made for those who prefer to brave the world of monsters and myth alone.
