A New GHOST IN THE SHELL Trailer Is Coming on Monday, But First Here's a New TV Spot

This coming Monday, Paramount Pictures will be releasing a new full trailer for their live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell. I have no doubt it will be loaded with lots of awesome new action-packed footage. While we wait for that trailer to be released, we've got a new TV spot for you to check out below.

During a recent interview with Marie ClaireScarlett Johansson once again addressed the "Whitewashing" casting controversy saying:

"I certainly would never presume to play another race of a person. Diversity is important in Hollywood, and I would never want to feel like I was playing a character that was offensive. Also, having a franchise with a female protagonist driving it is such a rare opportunity. Certainly, I feel the enormous pressure of that—the weight of such a big property on my shoulders."

Anyone who's familiar with the source material knows that the character Johansson plays is a synthetic "full-body prosthesis," which means she's not any race. She's an android.

Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, GHOST IN THE SHELL follows the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.

Rupert Sanders is directing the film, which also stars Michael Pitt, Juliette Binoche, “Beat” Takeshi Kitano, Michael Wincott, and Pilou Asbæk. It's set to be released on March 31, 2017.
