A New G.I. JOE Film is in Development That Will Feature Chuckles

I’ve been saying all along that the future G.I. Joe films should put a focus on building up certain characters in a cinematic universe instead of throwing them all into one movie. It looks like Paramount Pictures and Hasbro are on the path to doing just that!

They’ve already announced a Snake Eyes movie, and now it’s being reported that they are also developing another G.I. Joe film that will include the character Chuckles, who has not been introduced in any of the films. I love this!

The film is being written by Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec (Alias, Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol) and the film is described as an ensemble piece. Chuckles won’t be the main character, but as the film development progresses that could change. There’s no word on who the other character will be.

Chuckles was a great character and here is some information on him incase you aren’t familiar with him:

One look at Chuckles and you wouldn't have given a thought he was an undercover agent. Most undercover specialists try not to stand out too much, their interaction with the enemy is often limited, most of their efforts are concentrated on the source for information, and they don't wear loud Hawaiian shirts. With his burly figure, Chuckles already stands out from the crowd. He has a gregarious personality that makes him the life of the party, quick-witted and possesses a natural likeability. He is very conscientious of his work that he'll volunteer for dangerous missions just to keep up his cover.

He has shifted from one undercover assignment to another for so many times, no one is sure who he works for anymore. He started as an investigator at the South-eastern Insurance Group in Fort Lauderdale. He still feels a debt of allegiance there. He eventually made his way to the US Army's Criminal Investigations Division.

I’m excited to see what comes of this new G.I. Joe project. I really hope that they get it right this time! With Applebaum and Nemec working on it, I think they will deliver something really cool and fun. I previously offered my own pitch of what the studio could do with the franchise, saying:

You could have a several different teams that could consist of combinations of characters like Gung Ho, Shockwave, Lifeline, Wild Bill, Ace, Wet Suit, Law & Order, Quick Kick, Rock ’n Roll, Torpedo, Low-Light, Mutt & Junkyard, Tunnel Rat, Alpine, Jinx, Spirit, Dusty, Beach Head, Shipwreck, Lady Jaye, Scarlett, and Snow Job. There are a ton more I could list, but you get the idea.

Mix and match the characters across multiple films! You could do a whole movie with just Shipwreck and Beach Head as they team up to stop Cobra from deploying some kind of terrorist attack. You could have Scarlett and Lady Jaye kick some ass together in their own story. Since it would be a cinematic universe, other characters can come in and out of it whenever they are needed, just like Marvel Studios does with its films. They could make for some incredible, intense, fun, amusing, and action-packed movies!

Snake Eyes is in pre-production and it has an October 16, 2020 release date. There’s no word on when this other film will come out, but I’ll be looking forward to seeing it!
